Fabric Requirements:
1/4 yard will yield 5 - 8 1/2” Blocks, I used approximately 10 different batiks at ¼ yard each= 50 blocks. If you use 42 Blocks at 8 ½”, with sashing your throw would = approximately 53 ½” X 62” without sashing 51” X 59 ½“prior to adding any borders.
A layer cake will yield about 42 blocks at 9 ½” and a finished size of approximately 59 ½” X 69 ½” with sashing or 57” X 66 ½” without sashing (assuming there is 42 layers in your layer cake)
If using stash or fat quarter sizes you need to be able to cut a minimum of an 8 ½” square (I used 16 blocks at 8 ½” for the wall hanging)
Contrast fabric:
½ yd to 2 yards depending on size and whether you choose to use it for binding.
Supplies:
Machine in good working order with a ¼” foot
Rotary cutter and mat
Scissors
Fabric marker, chalk pencil etc. You will need something to mark all your fabrics-I use different chalk markers for different colors, for instance a white chalk marker will not show on white fabrics.
Square ruler is very helpful-I recommend a 10” to 15”
